Project
01. Design of the content to be uploaded into the e-learning platform

Type: LLP-ERASMUS
Category: LLP Key Activity 2 - Languages
Parent: SLTOOL-SMART LANGUAGES (NEEDS ORIENTED) TOOLBOX FOR EUROPEANS

Period:
12 Nov 2009

This wp objective is the design of the content of SLTOOL that will be uploaded on the e-learning platform. SLTOOL is a language learning tool that is based on USER NEEDS. The tool will use a structure of a pyramid with 4 levels: LANGUAGE-NEEDS-THEMATIC SECTIONS-METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS.

The philosophy of the tool is that the user has a specific need to satisfy in a specific language e.g. going on holiday to a country or doing business with another country. Once this need is identified the tool will use specific thematic sections (group of activities e.g. outing) directly related to the need. Based on these, content will be designed for each thematic section and different methodological tools will be used.

The needs of 3 groups will be identified: Students of higher education, adults & professionals.

As far as STUDENTS OF HIGHER EDUCATION are concerned, thematic sections will involve student life activities (e.g. bibliography review, documentaries etc) whereas for ADULTS will involve everyday activities (outing, shopping etc).PROFESSIONALS thematic sectors will involve business activities e.g. phone calls, writing emails etc. After a NEED is identified different THEMATIC SECTIONS will be designed directly related to that need. In order to design these thematic sections focus groups will be used (1 for each group).

14 thematic sections will be identified for each target group and content will be designed for each thematic section.

It should be noted that although language is a direct expression of culture 2 thematic sections will directly be related to CULTURE because understanding the culture facilitates easier learning.

Different methodological tools & techniques will be used in each thematic sector to enable learning. Images (maybe video), documents, intuition, imagination, music will be some of the methodological tools to be used to facilitate learning.

Thematic sections, content and methodological tools will be translated in all project languages.
